Students thrive when they can think out loud.  One way to do this is having students in shared small groups using breakout rooms.  Small groups can foster a deeper level of connection and communication and productive breakout rooms offer students more voice and choice in their learning.  Some students find it difficult to participate or think out loud in the virtual environment or may be shy when put in front of a whole class but with breakout rooms for small group instruction, educators can improve student engagement, and differentiate instruction.
