In this learning experience participants will explore best practices in leveraging the positive potentials, navigating the challenges and managing dilemmas in the digital world.

Research shows that digital citizenship in the classroom is more than managing screen time and setting strong passwords. In this learning experience participants will explore best practices in leveraging the positive potentials, navigating the challenges and managing dilemmas in the digital world.  They will also discover a variety of strategies and modalities with which to learn and teach digital citizenshipParticipants will have opportunities to reflect on previous experiences with feedback and connect to new learning through performance tasks. 

Here is the course outline:

Welcome and Introduction

This module contains an introduction video, course objectives and an essential question that sets the tone for the course.

Engagement and Communication

In this segment, participants will review best practices from Hanover Research and Universal Design for Learning and the resources of www.commonsensemedia.org to formulate strategies and classroom norms for improving engagement and communication.

Classroom Management

In this section, participants will review teacher-tested techniques and online tools and begin to formulate a classroom management plan to involve and share with their students.

Digital Etiquette

Digital Etiquette is being responsible with and respectful of the great power that comes with using technology to interact with others. We’ll be talking about the importance of teaching Digital Etiquette first to help educate & eradicate cyber-bullying, digital drama & hate speech.

Research: News & Media Literacy

In this session, participants will learn about Media Literacy: The ability or skills to critically analyze for accuracy, credibility, or evidence of bias the content created and consumed in various media, including radio and television, the internet, and social media.

Conclusion & Closing Reflection

Wrapping up Learning Objectives and a Final Reflection for Digital Citizenship and Classroom Management.
